Last one for the year................

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
See you in 2009

January 1st is the Big 50................

Happy Birthday Glenda!!!!!!! WOW! I can't believe its been 50 years. Wait a minute......... what would I know............. I mean I can't believe you are 50 years old. (think I've said 50 enough??)

Hope you have a great birthday. Wish you the best on your day and the new year to come. If your at a New Years bash maybe you'll the beginning of your day with family and friends. Nice to be with you last week. I forgot to go through the pictures at home to find a baby picture. This one was from a family picture taken in 1983. (I think)

Last Week............

Last week we went down to my folks, in Evansville Indiana, on Tuesday. We had snow the first little bit and then freezing rain most of the way. We probably averaged around 45 miles per hour. I think we could have gone faster (probably best I wasn't driving) but Dan wasn't taking any chances. We probably saw close to 40 vehicles in the ditch including semi trucks and large trucks. We came back Saturday because we wanted to get back for our Winter Meeting. When we left Evansville it was getting close to 70. Just before we left Joseph was enjoying some time on the front porch swing with Grandpa and Grandma. I will post some pictures from last week.
He is still talking about the time down there. He asked me Monday if we were going to Grandpa and Grandma. Yesterday he asked if we were going to go see Uncle Andy and I said no.............. then he said go see Uncle Steve.
We had a very good day Sunday. Two very helpful meetings. Yesterday noon we had Gaylon here for lunch. Dan came home from work for lunch.

Dan's brother Jim was here for the night

on Sunday before we left. He had his
dog with him which I think Joseph liked.

Joseph with Grandpa and Grandma just

before going to Wednesday night mtg and
on the front porch swing.

Joseph playing the piano with Grandpa

Joseph with his Skyler....... his first
cousin once removed.
Skyler with her Dad, brother and
Mom. Which is my niece Shauna,
her husband Chris and Caleb.

My oldest sister Janet with her grandchild Caleb, also Joseph
and Dan in the background.

I was not on the ball when it came to taking pictures. I didn't take
hardly any pictures. Wish I got pictures of the rest of the family.
Some day we need to get a family picture made again. Last one
was probably six years ago.

Wanda S and Cheryl L came over from Kentucky Wednesday
late afternoon. They were there till after lunch on Thursday.
Nice to have some time with them.
My family didn't get together till Friday.

Joseph enjoyed playing the piano with Grandpa Sam. In this video I got a little of them playing
When the Roll is called up yonder............... I think I got the name right.

Going South..........

Tomorrow morning we are heading south to Evansville IN. Which isn't as far south as I would like to go. If it is warmer we just might stay. Dan is already having problems with his hands and feet keeping warm, now this new medication isn't helping. I wish I could find him a different job. If I could I would take his place at work.
We hope to leave at an early time tomorrow morning and be down there for a few days. We will come back probably on Saturday because our Winter Meeting is on Sunday.
Now I better get back to my laundry, dirty dishes and packing.
If I don't get back next week................ you'll hear from me next year.

Put on the brakes and switch gears....................

We went to the VA in Madison yesterday for Dan's appointment. We were figuring on hearing news about the upcoming surgery as to when and where. Dan's appointment was at 1:00 so we left here sometime between 8:30 and 9:00. Best to allow about one and half hours to get there and beings we were in the last part of our snowstorm ...................... we wanted to allow time. We averaged around 40 miles an hour. I guess we got around 11 inches in Milwaukee area and probably close to that around here. More is on the way................ (wonderful)

Any how................. after the Cardiologist looked over and talked about Dan they've decided to hold off on surgery. With his heart being enlarged and weak they are wondering if the greater problem being a weak heart. One of his test showed severe where another test showed moderate. They've decided that the leakage is between moderate and severe. They are starting Dan on blood pressure medicine to lower his blood pressure and pulse. I think this is to help the heart not work so hard. Then they plan to put him on something to strengthen his heart. He does not normally have high blood pressure but this medicine is often used for mitral valve problems and other heart problems. One of the side effects of the medicine is tiredness which he has a severe case of already. He is also to see a heart specialist there that specializes in heart failure and weak hearts.
So................ we do have mixed feelings over the news. We are glad that surgery isn't needed at this time but Dan was wanting a quick fix. He is tired of being tired all the time. We can understand they are wanting to save us from doing the surgery if it turns out that surgery might not be the answer.
Now we start the waiting again...................... we are looking at two months maybe three to see some results.
Another side effect is lack of circulation to hands and feet which will cause coldness. He is already complaining about is feet and hands being cold. In this weather..................... not a good thing.

Happy Birthday Peggy................

Happy Birthday to Peggy Jansen. She and Mom share the same birthday............ just a few years apart......... like maybe 12 years.
Peggy was my first co-worker in North Carolina. She had been in IL then some years in IN and then on to NC in 1992. My folks took us down in time for Denton convention. A trip none of will probably forget for more reasons then one. Peggy enjoyed all the times Dad would stop at the scenery lookouts.........................NOT. When one is on a schedule they don't have a lot of time for looking out.............. except the windows as we are passing by.
I probably should call or email Peggy. I doubt if she will ever see this................ probably because she doesn't know it exists. Beings I haven't been in touch for sometime................ she probably doesn't know exist. Remember me....................... yes, after two years with me how could she forget me. I wish I had a picture handy...........................

Happy Birthday Mom................

Happy Birthday to you Mom.......................... and Grandma. We are running behind on the post as we were running behind on our phone call. The coldness here makes one move slower.

The years have gone by but she still looks the same.
I don't know when the picture of Dad and Mom
was taken but it seems it might have been
before they were married. Also known as Sam and Mary Mobley

Then came the children .............................. now everyone
will know who Joseph takes after................ the dorky
looking one in my Mom's lap. (poor Joseph)
Then came the grandchildren................... 11 of them
plus 2 great-grandchildren.
It would be nice to get an updated picture of the
grandparents and grandchildren. It always seems
when we are together there is someone missing.

Pictures from last week..............

Short time in our "first" snow of the

year.
Every morning now Joseph says - Play

in the snow tomorrow and I say yes. He
says that because one morning he asked
to go out and I said not today but maybe
tomorrow. He doesn't know yet that
tomorrow never comes. (shame on me)

I have tried all morning to download a video of Joseph but it won't come through and we have got to go out for a bit.

Note: Saturday - it worked this time.

Thanksgiving pictures and deer pictures. I'm sorry if the deer pictures offend or gross anyone out. I for one am very grossed out but not offended. I was told once we can't be offended unless we allow ourselves to be offended. Which is true but sometimes I find it hard not to allow it. I also heard if we let another offend us then we make that person an offender. Hhmmm........ I don't want to do that (for then I would be married to an offender)

Six very delicious pies. Two pecans, two pumkins and two buttermilk.

HIS FIRST TIME FOR PIE BAKING

Joseph put on one of Cuylers shirts to go outside. You have to wear orange if your going to be outside.

Great-Grandma Swonger, Dan and Joseph

Grandma Swonger, Dan and Joseph

The dinner..........................

The kill...............................

Randy with his buck

Dan with his doe...................... sorry I didn't get
out there before it was skinned. YUCK!!!

Here are a couple pictures of Joseph's new John Deere tractors.
Grandma Swonger saw them on sale at Farm Fleet or Fleet Farm or what ever the store is called up there. I can't even remember what the ones around here are called. See what happens when two brothers don't get along and go their seperate ways. They have the same store but two similar names. (that is the story I heard as to why different names) Any way back to the tractors that were on sale......................... We went out on Friday to get these................. yes I know, that is "Black Friday" and yes there was a mob there and yes, as soon as we got of there we went straight home.

It is cold here...............

Okay, so I couldn't think of a better title......................... but it is cold. It makes me feel like it is going to be a long winter. If I was a bird I would fly south........... way south.
We spent Thanksgiving up at Randy's and most of the family was there for Thanksgiving day. Nice to see Grandma Swonger (great to Joseph) there and Dan's aunts Mary and Martha. Dan did get to go hunting and he did get some venison. I asked him if he slept any out in his stand because when he sits down he takes a nap. (not intending to) He said he did, so guess he is lucky that he got the shot he did since he said didn't see very many deer. So now, with the venison gift we got earlier (someone heard that Dan might not get to go hunting) and now this poor deer, we have a freezer full to live on while Dan is off work. If anyone knows of a venison recipe book or good recipes................ please............. I beg................... let me know!!!!!!!!!
Monday (before Thanksgiving) was Dan's first day back to work after being off from his heart cath and back. I didn't allow him to stay the whole day because after going to the doc I had to have a procedure done which he came home for and then stayed home with me on Tuesday. The good that came out of it is Dan bake six pies for me that I was going to bake for Thanksgiving. In between the pies he took Joseph outside to play in the snow for a few minutes. It ended up being a very short time because it was all his back could handle. I did slip down the stairs, in my pj's, and get a few pictures. I will post them and shut up now.

Forgot...........

Joseph use to say "This little piggy went to Home Depot, this little piggy went to Menards, this little piggy went to Neus, this little piggy stayed home and this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home" His Daddy taught him that one. Friday I heard a new version from Joseph that neither Dan or I taught him............. "This little piggy went to the doctor, this little piggy went to the hospital, this little piggy went to the chiro, this little piggy stayed home and this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home" Guess the past month has made quite an impression on him.

At gospel meeting this afternoon Joseph and I sat next to Richard and Barb. Joseph tried to entertain Barb by showing her his book. He would turn the page, then turn it around and hold it up for her to see. On the way home I mention to him that sat next to Barb and Joseph said "That was fun"

Pictures from past while

Family Bikes

Someone asked Dan if he would like some bicycles.......... a his and a hers. I had been saying for sometime I would like to bike ride for exercise. Hhmmmm........ somehow one's words will come back for them.

New Toy

Since Joseph had really done well with all the running to the doctors, hospitals and staying with others while having the test done................. we decided to get him something.

We got him a Thomas the Tank Engine and small train track. Of course there are many more engines, train cars, tracks and other stuff that can be added. It is probably cheaper to buy the huge set than to buy a bunch of little set but...........................

Any way we told him when he starts going potty we would add Annie and Clarabell to Thomas. Needless to say he didn't get excited about it. Maybe he didn't understand................ but I think he did.

Couple of videos of his little train set working. He and Dan used Lego blocks to make a tunnel and some other stuff. Joseph thought that was pretty neat. On the one video he tackled me while I was filming.

Long time.......... no post.............

Yeah, we are still here............. in Wisconsin.................. cold Wisconsin. It's only the 23rd of November and I'm already looking forward to warmer weather. It seems colder this year, it just goes right through me. It is probably no different than last year or the year before that and maybe it has to do with age. They say older folks can't handle the cold..................... I must be almost there.

Most of you would know that Dan isn't having the best time of his life. (yes, I think he feels old too) Before convention he found out he was going to need further heart test done to see the condition his heart was in. He has had a heart murmur since birth but he didn't find out till he went in the military. They told him it was an innocent murmur and when he was getting out they found it had gotten worse due to overexertion during physical training. (that it is why he goes to the VA) He has a mitral valve prolapse where it stays open. His heart is only able to pump 40% of the blood out to his body the rest flows back into the heart. (I think) The mitral valve has two leaflets that, when working correctly, are suppose to come together when closed. Most commonly one of the leaflets will stay open, not go all the way closed. Dan's problem is that both of the leaflets stay open.

On Oct 24th Dan had a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) done where they go down through your throat to look at the heart. This confirmed there was severe leakage and confirmed the need for surgery. Then Nov 7th he had a heart cath done......... good news from that was he didn't have any blockages but it show that he has an enlarged heart and weak.

We are now waiting to here from the VA (in Madison) on the next appointment to talk with the cardiologist and surgeons. Both doctors (first the older one who has been the hospital for 30 years) have suggested he get a second opinion and recommended Mayo. The doctor said they don't feel they have the experience with this type of surgery. (we appreciate their honesty) They don't feel that Dan's valves can be repaired but will have be replaced. The VA does work with the UW hospital there in Madison. (they are connected) So we wait and see...............

The week before Dan had his heart cath done he started having pain in his back and going down his leg. To make a long story short................. he had an MRI done Wednesday which shows he has a (or two) herniated disc and a tear. Doctor sent him to have a cortazone shot and suggested therapy plus gave him pain medicine and muscle relaxers. The Chiro wants him to see a Neuro Surgeon because of the tear.

Seems like everything that can happen is happening to us right now. Maybe I better not say that because I'm sure there is more that can happen.

Happy Birthday Andrea!!!!!!!! (A couple has anniversary)

Happy Birthday Andrea................... let's see, you are now............ (were born in 87 and now we are in 2008, which means.....) 21! Mercy I remember when you turned 16. Everyone is growing up but me.
You are only young once but you can be immature all your life. That fits me!

I have this feeling that I'm spelling Andrea's name wrong. She probably won't read this but her Mom will................... that could be worse.

Happy Anniversary Shauna and Chris! I wish your Aunt Glenda would get busy on her blog so I can see some up to date pictures of your two. We hope to see you all in December.

I can't believe it is already November. I will be glad when tomorrow is over and we know who God has chosen or allowed to be president.

Not much to write today or I should say not much I'm going to write about today.

Some days are like this.........................

Yesterday as we were making one of our many trips to the store I noticed they were loading up some of the chickens. I wanted to get a picture but didn't have my camera. I really should start keeping my camera with me....................... you never know when you have a Kodak moment.

Okay so maybe chickens aren't exactly a Kodak moment. Is that even the way you spell Kodak?

So when we got back I got the camera and took a picture of the next load that was waiting to go. Then when the truck was leaving we got a few pictures from the window. Yes, I know, the driver if he saw me probably thought I was weird. But you know being weird makes life interesting. Its easy to get excited over the
little things. (like a load of chickens)

They raise the chickens here and then take them to their other farms. At the other farms they become laying hens. Right now the back side of the farm has white feathers everywhere. Today and yesterday has been very breezy.

So life on the farm continues.............................

Here is another creature that keeps my life very interesting and some times exciting.

He found another use for an ice cream pail.

Nice Birthday

I had to slip off to the bathroom as soon as meeting was over on Sunday and after coming back into the room they all sang "Happy Birthday". Kind of embarrassing but yet nice to be sang to. Then Dan, Joseph and I went to Olive Garden. Joseph didn't really eat much cause he was busy flirting with ladies at the next table. Before we were finished a few of the waiters came over to sing. It seems each restaurant has their own way of singing "Happy Birthday".

Then we came home for a long afternoon nap. On Saturday I did get some flowers which surprised me because we had agreed not to buy anything for each others birthdays and anniversary since we splurged and bought something this past spring. I'm not complaining......... I like flowers every once in awhile but they die so quick.

Happy Birthday...............................

Happy Birthday (tomorrow) to me! The year has gone by fast! It seems like I just turned 39 not long ago. (longer than I would like it to seem) This year will probably go as fast as the last one so I'm going to hang on tight and try to enjoy.

I asked Dan last night what he was going to cook me for my birthday...............

Me: So.... what are you planning to cook on Sunday? Should I set anything out?
Dan: I thought maybe we would go out.
Me: Oh! Where?!
Dan: Golden Corral!!
Me: Oh.......... really?!? Seems the one that is having the birthday should get to pick the place.
Dan: There will be lots of food and lots of people to enjoy your birthday with.
Me: Lots of food and lots of people don't set well with me when it comes to buffet.
Dan: Come on...................
(end of discussion)

Now I feel a bit guilty. Only a bit. One reason is I should be finishing the laundry. Another reason........... Golden Corral is a good place to go to get your moneys worth. (for Dan, that is) Money wise it would make more sense for us to go there. Otherwise.............

The dryer that was here when Dan began renting started making an horrible racket. I put off washing because I dreaded running the dryer. I had no idea what might happen after the dryer got tired of complaining. The landlord said when the washer and dryer quit it wasn't his problem because they belonged to the renter before Dan and that renter left them behind. We did get a washer and dryer from Dan's brother Jim when he moved. We had thought we need them when we got a house. So to make this long story a bit shorter............ we brought up the dryer out of the garage and hauled the other one down. It runs so much quieter. We will bring up the washer later since the current one only runs on one cycle. No sense in waiting for a house to use them at........................ Now is the time to buy a house but not our time. That leads to another story......

Most newly married couples get their careers going, get financially secured (somewhat) and buy (or build) a house then start on the family thing. Well, as you would know, we are doing things a bit backwards and slowly at that. What matters most is that we are happy and content where we are. One thing for sure we have a nice big apartment and in a very good location that is like out in the country. Close to two major interstates, a few Walmarts, a few Pick n Save and a few Home Depots.

I need to get the laundry and some cookies eaten before Joseph wakes up from his nap.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Okay............. I've looked at a few blogs which showed the blogger knows something about cooking and baking. I'm not much in the kitchen and don't really enjoy spending time. Because of this I'm very thankful my husband will eat anything.

My question is ........................................ what is the secret of a good chocolate chip cookie?? My cookies have never turned out the same way twice in a row. They are editable and taste good, so why am I complaining...................... they sometimes look too dark. They sometimes are much, how would you describe it, like thick. Does it have something to do with the consistency of the butter when beating? I follow the recipe on the package of the Nestle or Hersey brand chips.

Any advise is welcome.

Children are wonderful................. imitators

It is fun to watch and listen to Joseph and actually see yourself. (or Dan) Sometimes I'm like, do I do that??? Do I say that???
Dan won't like me posting this picture of Joseph with my headband on but............ I will any way. Joseph like to get my purse and shoes on. Lately he has been trying to put Dan's ties on and as he is doing so he says............ "Go to Sunday morning meeting.........."
Yesterday he got a hold of my phone and was talking away. First it was to Grandma and then I heard him talking to Brian B. So I hurried to get the camera to see if I could record it. Dan told him to ask about the skunk. Brian and Heather had a skunk in their compost from Thursday night, all day Friday but when I called this morning it was gone.

Yesterday I wished I had my camera at the grocery store. I decided to see if Joseph was big enough to push around one of the children's cart. They just have one now (when I worked there they had 3) and Joseph enjoyed it very much. Only problem was he thought it was also his job to fill the cart.

Saturday Hayride

I'll post some pictures of our time on Saturday. After Joseph and I went to Walmart and Pick n Save we decided to run over to a farm on Hwy 83

to look at the pumpkins and all they had there. They sell pumpkins and
other fall stuff or you can pick your own pumpkin out of the field. You
can do the corn maze, cut through the corn, for $4 and there is a hay

ride for $4. Joseph got the ride for free because of his age. I should've
asked what the cut off age was.

There was a maze of bales for the little ones. Joseph enjoyed
going through that. They had a few scare crows dressed up. I

guess that is what you call them though they didn't look scary.

Joseph really likes tractors.................. even with scare crows driving. I

forgot to take a picture of the tractor pulling the wagon for the hay

ride. (wasn't thinking)

The wagon had sides around it (for safety) and then the bales for sitting

on around the edge. At one point we stopped and the man called for

the cows. When they came over the hill and up to the fence we threw

them some corn. Along the way we saw a few scare crows doing a

few different things.

Joseph had a nice time till on the way home I decided to take the van through the car wash. He panicked and cried the whole time. I should have known better because he the same thing the last time we went through. He was upset with me because all the way home he wouldn't look at me when I would talk to him.

Then Sunday he took another fall after meeting. He bit his lip when he fell so it was a bloody mess. I wanted to hold him yet I was thinking of my good clothes..................... poor guy.

Happy Anniversary...............

Happy Anniversary to us! Four years ago today we tied the knot. Somehow it seems much longer (in a good way) and yet it doesn't seem four years.

Dan has a job going today so we won't be spending our day together. No.......... we don't have any dinner plans either. Maybe next weekend we can fit something in though I think he will be working too. Hhhmmmm, maybe I should just cook a decent meal tomorrow and save our money. (except we don't have money to save - smile)

I was surprised to walk into the kitchen this morning to find it decorated. I got up to make Dan some lunch and breakfast to go....................... and walked in to a festive looking kitchen. Joseph will like it................. it will be amusing to see his face when he walks in there. Most of the balloons have something written on them.

He has been stuck on singing Happy Birthday lately. He say who evers name comes to mind. Last night he was singing Happy Birthday to the moon. Maybe I can get him to sing Happy Anniversary today.

Last weekend we were over at Fred and Patty S.......... Joseph enjoyed the two dogs and one of the friends snazzy car. Just like a boy to have his eyes on the "cool" looking cars. He couldn't keep his hands off it. All I could think of was how touchy my brother was about his car getting finger prints on it.
